Evan's Eyes

ROUTE 9

People who claim there is no morality in Hollywood haven't seen this movie. It starts with a drug deal wherein all the participants shoot each other. Obvious message: "Deal drugs and you'll die a brutal death." This leads to the temptation of a couple "good" deputies who find the crime scene. Not to give away the specifics, but all the characters end up hurtling down the slippery slope faster than a Drunken Tobogganers club meeting at the top of Mammoth Mountain. Bad things happen to bad people. I would say bad things happen to good people too, but it turns out that the only "good" people are incidental characters (maybe their sins and indiscretions just got edited out). "Route 9" is the cinematic version of "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." Sinners are punished, but hey, everyone's a sinner, so punishment is handed out like free pens at a sales convention. It would make the Puritans proud. If you've been wishing that Hollywood produced more morality plays like "A Simple Plan," this movie will make you happy. If you think that humans actually have hope of redemption, leave this one on the video store shelf.

If you liked the movies below, you'll probably like this one (and visa versa):

  • Dying to Get Rich
  • A Simple Plan
  • Red Rock West
