Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

"Should I go see Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers?" Decision Tool in Two Questions:

1. Did you see Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring?
If No - Why would you see the second movie first? Do not see this movie until you've seen the first one.
If Yes - Continue to Question 2.

2. Did you utterly hate the movie Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring?
If Yes - There's nothing I can do for you. Don't see LOTR:TTT. Read my other reviews until you find something you like.
If No - Go see it.

There's not much else I can say. This movie has the same problem as The Empire Strikes Back. As the middle of a trilogy, it's like the second act of a standard screenplay. Things start out bad. They get worse. But if you saw the first one and have the remotest chance of seeing the third, you really should see this installment. I admit, LOTR:TTT doesn't have the exciting sense of new discovery as LOTR:TFOTR did. The first movie also had the Shire, Rivendell, and Lothlorien, which are all really beautiful. The locations for LOTR:TTT aren't going to top the "Middle-Earth Tourism Board's Best Travel Spots List", especially when being ravaged by epic battles. But this is just nit-picking, unless you hated the first one, why wouldn't you see what comes next?

If you liked the movies below, you'll probably like this one (and visa versa):

  • Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
  • Gormenghast
